Educational Goal

The educational objective of the Faculty of Education is to cultivate educators with a high level of specialist expertise and an equally high level of humanitarian concern, who are capable of exploring, from both a theoretical and a practical perspective, the various issues affecting school education.

Admission Policy

The Faculty of Education aims to cultivate educators with a high level of specialist expertise and an equally high level of humanitarian concern, who are capable of exploring, from both a theoretical and a practical perspective, the various issues affecting school education. To this end, we are looking for the following type of people to enroll as students at the Faculty:

  1. Individuals who have a strong, clear ambition to become teachers at kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, senior high school or special education school level.
  2. Individuals who have the basic capabilities required in order to acquire the specialist knowledge and skills that they will be studying at the Faculty.
  3. Individuals who have a passionate eagerness to undertake the academic study and hands-on learning required in order to become a teacher.
  4. Individuals who are willing to make the effort to communicate effectively with children, students and other people around them.
  5. Individuals who are willing to make an ongoing, untiring effort to strengthen their own humanitarian concern for others.

Kagoshima Prefecture has many small-scale schools that are located on outlying islands or in remote areas. In order to meet the educational needs of these areas, the Faculty of Education provides a curriculum that enables students to obtain multiple teaching certificates for elementary school, junior high school and senior high school teaching, thereby enabling them to teach at more than one level simultaneously if required.

Diploma Policy

In line with Kagoshima University’s degree conferment policy and the Faculty’s educational objectives, the Faculty of Education confers a Bachelor’s degree on those students who have acquired the following capabilities and have successfully completed the specified units:

  1. Acquisition of the ability to undertake self-directed learning that integrates theory and practice, based on a clear awareness of educational issues.
  2. Acquisition of the ability to acquire specialist knowledge in various fields, based on extensive educational knowledge, and to make effective use of this specialist knowledge in the implementation of teaching.
  3. Acquisition of the high level of specialist skill and practical implementation ability required for educational activities, combined with humanitarian concern, an ethical outlook, and strong communication abilities, so as to be able to make a contribution towards education in the local community.
  4. Acquisition of the ability to examine the diverse range of issues currently affecting education from a wide-ranging perspective, and the commitment to identify, explore and solve future issues on an ongoing basis.

Curriculum Policy

So as to be able to implement and realize the Faculty’s degree conferment policy, the Faculty of Education has formulated, and implements, a curriculum based on the following principles:

  1. In order to realize the learning outcomes of the Bachelor’s degree program, we formulate a specialized, systematic curriculum that covers every stage from general education classes through to the graduation thesis, and which aims to cultivate humanitarian concern for others, high ethical standards and logical thinking.
  2. In order for students to acquire the ability to utilize their specialist capabilities effectively in the classroom, we arrange a wide range of seminars.
  3. In order to cultivate in students the ability to undertake wide-ranging observation of education-related issues and to identify, explore and solve problems by themselves, along with the ability to provide practical guidance and communication skills, we arrange a range of practical classes.
