Practice
At the Faculty of Education—the purpose of which is to cultivate teachers—teaching practice is a very important required unit, since it can help students to enhance the practical guidance provision ability that they will need to utilize as teachers. Unlike other classes, teaching practice is carried out with supervision both from the school at which the student is placed, and from Kagoshima University; students make use of the knowledge and skills that they have already acquired to participate in, and learn from, providing academic guidance, assisting students with extracurricular activities (including the provision of life guidance), and assisting with school and class management.
The Faculty of Education’s teaching practice provision is implemented stage-by-stage as a coordinated series of activities, starting in the first year of the course with Teaching Experience, and continuing in the second year with Participation, Observation and Practice, followed in the third and fourth years by Pre- and Post-implementation Research and Educational Field Research. A distinction is made between Teaching Practice Research I, which takes place in the third year, and involves Teaching Practice (License No. 1) for securing the teaching certificate required for the type of school and subjects that the student’s course is focused on, and Teaching Practice Research II, taking place in the fourth year, which involves Teaching Practice (License No. 2) for securing the teaching certificate for a different type of school and different subjects.
For example, students on the Elementary Education Course would undertake teaching practice in an elementary school for Teaching Practice Research I in the third year, and would then undertake teaching practice aimed at securing the teaching certificate for a different type of school or subjects that the student is interested in for Teaching Practice Research II in the fourth year.
